Rockpile is an AVA located at the northern end of Sonoma County. On a high ridge sitting above Lake Sonoma, the area is wild and rugged, so the vines struggle on the dry, rocky soil, focusing all of their energy on producing low yields of high-quality grapes. The lake creates an inversion layer that draws the cool air to its’ surface, allowing the vines, which sit at 800-feet, to experience long, sunny days, and warm evenings. This gives the grapes time to develop their complex flavor profiles, while maintaining their acidity.
This wine is dry, with medium acidity, and will continue to evolve in the bottle for many years to come. Deep and intensely rich, this 2017 Golden Grape Cabernet Sauvignon has dark fruit flavors with the perfect balance of tannins and spicy oak. Swirl and draw in the aroma of black currant, dark spices, and perhaps the slightest whiff of the rocky soil from which it hails.
With each swallow, you’ll note the unique fruit characteristics of this wine. Big and bold, this wine pairs well with steak and truffles, Beef Wellington with honey roasted carrots, Korean-style beef stir fry, pepper-crusted Ahi tuna or grilled lamb with rosemary.
